15,000+ EWS Seats Missing in Top Delhi Schools—Parents Demand Action
Allegations of a Major Scam
The Delhi Parents Association (DPA) has accused 16 well-known private schools in Delhi of withholding over 15,000 seats meant for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students. This is seen as a serious violation of educational rights.
Complaint Sent to Authorities
The DPA has written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Lt Governor VK Saxena, CBSE, and child rights bodies like NCPCR and NHRC, demanding strict legal action against these schools and a full audit of their EWS admissions.
Schools Allegedly Ignoring EWS Quota
According to government data, these schools—including Salwan Public School (1,237 seats), OPG World School (1,408), and Sri Venkateshwar International School (2,076)—have failed to fill the required 25% EWS quota. On average, only 13% of the reserved seats have been allotted to underprivileged students.
Violations of the Right to Education Act
These schools operate on government land given at subsidized rates under the condition that 25% of seats are reserved for EWS students. However, the DPA alleges that schools sold reserved seats, charged full fees from EWS students, and collected extra money for festivals, picnics, and uniforms.
A Call for Transparency
The DPA believes the problem might be much bigger, affecting thousands of students across Delhi. They call it “a betrayal of trust” and urge the government to ensure fair EWS admissions and hold schools accountable.
